Traditional Sweet Rice Cake “Nian Gao” Easy recipe

Ingredients:

3.5 Chinese brown sugar blocks
400ml Water
200g Glutinous rice flour
1.5 tbsp Wheat starch
3 Raw dates
1 tsp Olive oil

Instructions to make Nian Gao:
1. Boil sugar in water until melted.
2. Mix rice flour and wheat starch.
3. Add dry ingredients into wet ingredients.
4. Mix well.
5. Pour mixture through sift to achieve smooth texture.
6. Coat pan with a layer of oil to prevent sticking.
7. Pour mixture into pan.
8. Steam on high heat for 1 hour.
9. You may need to add more water into steamer so to make sure to check that it doesn't run dry.
11. Decorate rice cake with dates on top.
12. Store Nian Gao in fridge in an airtight container.

How to cook your Nian Gao:
13. Cut out the amount you want to eat and cut into thin slices.
14. Mix Nian gao slices with 1 egg.
15. Add some oil to the pan and pan fry Nian gao until soft.
