What to Expect At Your First Appointment
During the initial assessment, your physiotherapist will take a detailed history of your problem. Based on the information gathered, your physiotherapist will determine the best assessment technique for your pelvic floor muscles and surrounding structures (external and/or internal physical examination in-person or movement/functional screening virtually). Together, you and your physiotherapist will develop a personalized treatment plan to address your specific problem and map your road to recovery. Treatments may include a combination of manual therapy, personalized exercises, self-management strategies, education about your condition and more.
Your physiotherapist has received advanced training and is registered with the Ontario College of Physiotherapists to perform internal pelvic examinations.
Note: if you have extended health coverage for physiotherapy, pelvic physiotherapy sessions will be covered. You do not need a referral to be assessed or treated by a physiotherapist; however, some insurance companies require a physician’s referral to get the cost of physiotherapy reimbursed.
If you have any pelvic health concerns that are preventing you from living your best life, schedule an appointment today!
